In a message issued on the occasion of the World Arabic Language Day, Al-Azhar described Arabic as one of the most important, popular, and geographically widespread languages in the world.

It said God gave Arabic dignity and perpetuity by making it the language of the Quran and divine laws.

Al-Azhar referred to different assets of the Arabic language in terms of number of words, precision of conveying messages, etc, and underlined the need for protecting and promoting the language in the world.

Egypt’s grand Mufti, Shawki Allam, also described the safeguarding and developing the Arabic language as necessary.

He said protecting the Arab civilization and identity requires guarding the language.

He also stressed the major role that the Holy Quran and Islam have played in protection, development and burgeoning of Arabic, adding that any attempt at removing the religious aspect from the language will only lead to weakening it and undermining its status.
