Ibn al-Jazari; A Great Qari and Quran Scholar
Abu al-Khayr Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Yusuf al-Jazari (November 1350– December 1429) was a scholar in the field of the Qira’at of the Quran, whom al-Suyuti regarded as the "ultimate authority on these matters".
He was also an expert in the field of Hadith, writing a famous book in this field under the title of “Al-Hidaya fi Ilm al-Riwaya”.
He was born and raised in Damascus, although the nisba (attributive title), Jazari, denotes an origin from Jazirat ibn Umar in today’s Turkey.
He learned the entire Quran by heart at the age of 13 and studied Qira’at and Tajweed with top scholars in the fields, becoming a great qari.
He also learned Tafsir (Quran interpretation), Fiqh, Hadith, Usul, Balagha, etc.
Ibn al-Jazari served in many religious and judiciary posts as well as teaching at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus.

He also established Quran schools in Damascus and in Shiraz.
Ibn al-Jazari wrote many books in the fields of Quran, Hadith, Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and history of Islam.
He died in the year 833 after Hijrah (1429) in Shiraz at the age of 82 and was buried in the Dar-ul-Quran School that he had founded.
