KARBALA (IQNA) – In a campaign to honor the Holy Quran, dozens of Arbaeen pilgrims wrote down the holy book last week.

Launched by a center affiliated with the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) Holy Shrine, the campaign was warmly welcomed by dozens of scholars, preachers, and pilgrims from various countries who had participated in the Arbaeen walk last week.

Montazer al-Mansouri, an official with the Astan, said the initiative was launched under the title of “A Commitment to The Quran” as a response to the acts of Quran desecration in a few Western countries.

He hailed the handwritten Quran as the “longest” version of the holy text which has been written on a 300-meter-long fabric.

Various programs were held this year to honor the Holy Quran during the Arbaeen procession which drew over 20 million people from various countries to Iraq.

This year’s Arbaeen comes amid a new wave of acts of Quran desecration that are allowed to happen in Nordic states, especially in Sweden and Denmark, under the guise of freedom of speech.

Numerous programs and campaigns have been held this year to honor the Holy Quran during the Arbaeen march by millions of pilgrims who undertake the kilometers-long journey on foot.

The Arbaeen mourning ceremony stands as an extraordinary and colossal religious congregation on a global scale, with more than 20 million pilgrims in attendance. This profound event signifies the 40th day following Ashura, the solemn commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the revered grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
