TEHRAN (IQNA) – A competition on memorization of the Quran has attracted many families in Al-Quds, occupied Palestine.

Titled “Quranic Family”, the contest is aimed at encouraging families to memorize the Quran, Al-Jazeera reported.

It began on September 1 under the supervision of Zayd ibn Thabit Quran Memorization and Teaching Center and with support from Al-Quds TV.

The contenders compete at four levels for different age groups of 5 to 7, 8 to 11, 12 to 14, and 15 and older.

The competition will conclude later this month and winners will receive cash prizes and certificates of honor.

In the latest series of the contest, held on Saturday and Sunday, some 600 individuals competed for the top prize in different categories.

They included children aged five to a contender named Hayat Ghazawi who is 72.

Abdul Rahman Bakirat, director of the Zayd ibn Thabit Center, said it is the first Quran competition in its kind that targets families.

He hailed the good reception of the contest by Palestinian families in the holy city.
