TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Moroccan Quranic expert and referee lauded Iran’s organization of this year’s international Quran competitions.

Mohammad Ali Attafi

Speaking to IQNA on Friday, Mohammad Ali Attafi hailed the Islamic Republic of Iran for staging the competition, both those held in-person in the past years, and also those editions that were held virtually, as successful experiences.

The final stage of the 38th edition of Iran's international Quran contest started last Monday and will officially wrap up tonight in Tehran.

Attafi is an expert on Waqf and Ibtida (pause and start) and this is the fourth year that he is a member of the panel of arbiters in Iran’s international Quran competition.

The initiative of Iran for recording the performances of participants in its diplomatic centers in other countries was a unique experience, he said, adding that Iran implemented a model under the covid-19 pandemic which can be adopted by other countries as well.

Results of a competition that assesses participants in various fields such as Waqf, Ibtida, Sawt, and Lahn are more suitable and fair, noted the expert.

It is a fact that Iranian qaris are at the best form in tajweed, Sawt (melodious voice), and Lahn (rhythm), he said, adding that he is aware that Iranian competitors are being counted on in various other international competitions such as the one in Malaysia.

The Moroccan expert noted that this edition was a good opportunity to encourage the young generation to memorize the Quran while also to get acquainted with referees from other countries such as Pakistan, Iraq, and Jordan.
