TEHRAN (IQNA) – The representative of the Leader of the Islamic in India underlined the need for Muslims to maintain the achievements gained in the holy month of Ramadan.

In a message on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Hojat-ol-Islam Mehdi Mahdavipour said Ramadan was a month full of blessings and virtues and a time when Muslims practiced worshipping God.

The main thing they achieved in Ramadan is getting closer to their God-seeking Fitrat (nature), he said, adding that efforts should be made to preserve this achievement.

He also congratulated Indian Muslims on Eid and prayed that the coronavirus pandemic will be uprooted all over the world.

Muslim scholars in India had announced Monday to be Eid in the South Asian country.

Eid al-Fitr marks the new lunar month of Shawwal and the end of Ramadan — the ninth month on the Islamic calendar — when Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured from dawn to dusk.

Muslims believe Ramadan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind, given the belief that it was in Ramadan when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Most Muslim countries celebrated Eid on Sunday.
