IQNA – Iran’s top human rights official hailed the stances of Muslim countries in support of Palestine but said they should turn the words into action.

Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights

Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights, made the remark while addressing an international conference on “Occupation of Palestine from Viewpoint of International Laws and Violation of Humanitarian Rights in Gaza.

He highlighted the role of Muslim countries in backing Palestine, saying the holy city of al-Quds and the issue of Palestine are factors uniting Islamic states.

“Over the past months, we have seen good stances of Muslim countries (against the Israeli regime’s war on Gaza) but have not witnessed practical action. The Islamic countries should turn their words and stances into action,” he stated.

Completely boycotting the Zionist regime and products produced in occupied territories is one of the actions that the countries can do against the regime, Gharibabadi noted.

He further slammed the inaction of countries that claim to be advocates of human rights over the atrocities in Gaza but said the people of these countries have been present on the scene and voiced their condemnation of the Israeli regime’s crimes against Palestinians.

The human rights official also stressed the massacre of civilians, especially innocent women and children, in the Gaza Strip and destruction of civilian infrastructures will not bring military superiority for Israel, noting that the Tel Aviv regime has not reached any of its objectives in its war on the coastal enclave.

Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, killing more than 30,700 Palestinians and injuring over 72,000 others amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation.

The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
