According to Ibraheem Najm, head of Egypt’s Peace and Countering Extremism Center, the conference is slated for June 7-9.

He said Egypt’s prime minister will officiate the opening ceremony and that officials, scholars and experts from 42 country will attend the event, Dar-alifta.org website reported.

He noted that the aim of the conference is bringing together and unifying views of Muslim world scholars on how to confront extremism and terrorism.

Najm, who is also an adviser to Egypt’s grand Mufti, said the participants will also study the ideas existing in the literature of extremist groups and how they may affect the youth, especially via social media.

Discussing a renewal of religious discourse and its role in the fight against extremism and terrorism is also on the agenda, he stated, adding that neglecting this issue has allowed exploitations by extremist groups.
