TEHRAN (IQNA) – A mosque in Stock-on-Trent is set to hold free sessions of Islamic archery for the members of the local Muslim community, seeking to revive the sport among Muslim kids.

Archery GB’s Project Rimaya supported the project to increase participation in archery amongst Muslim communities and promote community integration.

The “have-a-go” sessions, hosted by Hanley Central Mosque, will take place on Sunday, August 7 at the Equality House Community Centre in Raymond Street.

“What I want to see on the shooting line is everybody standing together and shooting arrows, talking and conversing with each other and respecting each other,” said Grant Piland, of Trent Valley Archers and Chair of Staffordshire County Archery Association, BBC reported.

“That’s what we need to do, not just for the love of the sport, but for communities and for the country. It has become a passion of mine.”

Islamic teachings and hadiths advised Muslims to teach their kids archery, swimming, and horse riding.

Islam encourages anything that promotes refreshing mind or revitalizing the body provided it does not lead to or involve sin, cause harm, or hamper or delay religious obligations.
