Final Stage of Kuwait’s National Quran Contest Kicks Off

TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to Kuwait’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the final stage of 24th edition of the country’s national Quran memorization and recitation has begun and will go on for two weeks.

Speaking in the inauguration ceremony on Monday, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Essa Al-Kanderi said that the name of the event “Itmaen” [rest assured] has been chosen due to current conditions of the country and the world with regards to COVID-19 pandemic, Alrai reported.

1939 individuals took part in the preliminary stage comprising 860 men and 1079 women, he said, adding that best performers made it to the final stage as judged by 42 related governmental and private institutions. The competition is being held at the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City.

The preliminary stage was held in late August.

The event is aimed at promoting memorization of the Quran and learning its recitation and raising a generation of Quranic talents in the country, he said.

Winners of top titles will receive cash prizes totaling 150,000 Kuwaiti dinars.
