TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt strongly condemned a terrorist attack that targeted a Shia mosque in El-Baladiyat district in the eastern part of the capital Baghdad on Friday.

“The Egyptian government and its people stand with Iraq’s government and people in the fight against all forms of terrorism and extremism,” the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Egypt also expressed its condolences to the families of victims, extending wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured, according to Ahram Online.

At least ten people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries when a bomb explosion ripped through the mosque in the eastern flank of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Arabic-language Baghdad Today news agency that a bomber detonated his explosive belt among a group of worshippers attending the weekly Friday prayers at al-Muntadar Mosque in al-Baladiyat neighborhood.

The source added that the blast left ten people dead and 30 others injured.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but it bears the hallmark of such attacks carried out by the Daesh Takfiri terror group.
