TEHRAN (IQNA) – A woman from Thailand converted to Islam in a ceremony in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, northeast Iran on Saturday.

Urapan Ruyamiyal said the Shahada (profession of faith) and changed her first name to Maryam (Mary), according to Astan News.

The 22-year-old became a Shia Muslim after years of research about Islam and other religions.

She said her interest in Islam began 11 year ago when she saw her Muslim colleague’s conduct and behavior.

She said after lots of studies, she realized that Islam is the comprehensive path to spirituality and salvation.

At the end of the ceremony, the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine gifted a copy of the Holy Quran with English translation, a prayer rug, a prayer Chador (a large piece of cloth that is wrapped around the head and upper body leaving only the face exposed, worn especially by Muslim women), books and other cultural data-x-items to the new Muslim.
