TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 10th edition of the international Quran memorization, recitation and Tajweed competition in Kuwait will start on April 9.

According to Al-Watan website, Fahd Al-Shu’la, Kuwait’s minister of Awqaf and Islamic affairs, said that the main objective of the competition is to introduce different Quran recitation styles, encourage Quran memorizers to get acquainted with different recitation fields, identify top Quran reciters, and promote competition on Quran memorization.

Noting that the number of participants at the competition has significantly increased since its first edition, he said that addition of new categories, including “10-style Quran recitations” and “the best technical project for serving the Quran”, have made the Quranic event different from other international Quran competitions.

“Teenage Quran Memorizers” is the other category which will be included in the 10th edition of the competition, the minister said.

Mohammad Yusuf Darwishi, 11-year-old boy from Qazvin, Reza Golshahi from Khorasan Razavi and Hamid Reza Moqaddasi from Qom will be Iran's representatives in the contest, respectively competing in the memorization of the entire Quran and Tahqeeq recitation categories.

The previous edition of the Quran competition was held with 130 contenders from 79 countries.
