Prominent Egyptian Qari Remembered

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in Egypt on Sunday to commemorate late Quran reciter Shahat Muhammad Anwar.

 

His family organized the event to mark the 11th anniversary of his death, according toal-Yawm al-Sabi website.

He died on January 13, 2008.

Shahat was born in 1950 in a village in Egypt’s Dakahlia governorate.

He learned reading the Quran with his uncle Sheikh Halmi Mustafa and Tajweed rules with Sheikh Ali Sayyed Fararaji.

He demonstrated his great talent in recitation of the Quran and soon started reciting the Holy Book in ceremonies and mosques.

Shahat joined Egypt’s national radio as a Qari in 1979.

Later, he traveled to many countries, including Iran, France, Brazil, US, Britain, Lebanon and France, to recite the Quran.

In 2011, he won the top prize in Saudi Arabia’s international Quran competition.
