TEHRAN (IQNA) – Several Palestinians suffered from severe tear-gas inhalation on Friday after the Zionist regime’s forces suppressed a peaceful demonstration in the village of Khirbet Qalqas, located south of al-Khalil (Hebron) in the southern occupied West Bank.

Official Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa news agency reported that Israeli forces violently suppressed the demonstration organized by the village residents to demand the reopening of the main road to the village that was closed by Israel almost 17 years ago.

The Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters at demonstrators to disperse them, causing clashes to erupt between the forces and local Palestinians, many of whom suffered from suffocation as a result of the tear gas, according to Wafa.

Wafa added that Israeli forces detained press crew, including Wafa’s, and "prevented media coverage.”

Peaceful Palestinian protests in the West Bank and East Quds (Jerusalem) often spiral into violent clashes, as Israeli forces implement what the Zionist army refers to as "crowd control measures,” regularly without provocation.

Israeli forces typically fire tear gas, sound bombs, rubber-coated steel bullets, and live ammunition at Palestinians who throw stones and Molotov cocktails.
