TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian Quranic figure lauded the country’s Welfare Organization for successfully holding the second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired.

Quran Expert Hails Welfare Organization for Successfully Holding Contest for Visually-Impaired

"I believe that any new Quranic work that can promote Quranic activities in the society is praiseworthy,” Amir Aghaei said.

"There was a need for special attention to be paid to Quranic activities for the visually-impaired and that is what the Welfare Organization did and it was a good and successful step.”

Referring to the second edition of the contest, Aghaei, who was a member of the panel of judges, said the level of participants was higher this year, compared to the first edition held last year.

He noted that over 85 percent of the contenders managed to score the minimum points required in the first round and thus made it to the second round this year.

It showed that the quality of the competition was better in this edition and, God willing, will improve further in the future editions, he said.

According to Aghaei, foreign countries that took part in the contest seemed to have attached more importance to it this year.

They had selected some of their most talented and qualified Qaris and memorizers to send to the Quranic event, he stated.

Moreover, he said, the Welfare Organization invited Quran experts who have served as jury members in international Quran competitions to form the contest’s panel of judges.

Elsewhere, Aghaei underlined the importance of organizing such events for the blind, which he said will give them hope and encourage them to learn Quran recitation and memorize the Holy Book.

Asked whether other categories can be added to the existing ones, namely recitation of the Holy Quran and memorization of the entire Quran, Aghaei said memorization of 10 and 20 Juzes (parts) and interpretation of the Quran could be included in the contest.

The second international Quran competition for the visually-impaired was held in Tehran in late April.
