Closing Ceremony of 30th Int’l Quran Competition Held Friday

In a ceremony attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 30th International Quran Competition came to an end.
Culture Minister Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, Head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi and a number of other officials were also present at the event.
It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Vahid Vakili, the competition’s top Qari, followed by Tawasheeh programs.
Then, Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi addressed the program, beginning by extending congratulations on the auspicious occasion of Mab’ath (call to prophethood).
He said representatives of over 70 countries from 5 continents took part in the 30th edition of Iran’s International Holy Quran Competition.
Citing verse 68 of Surah Al-Maeda “Say, "O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord." And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people,” Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammadi said the Holy Quran is a Divine Book and that the Islamic Republic of Iran has raised the flag of the Quran at a time when the US and Israel and other enemies of Islam oppose Quranic activities.
Later in the programs winners of the five top titles in the memorization and recitation categories of the competition were awarded.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also addressed the ceremony. He extended congratulations on the Eid of Mab’ath and said it was a celebration for all humanity and the entire world.
He said Muhammad’s (PBUH) call to prophet meant humanity has reached a point where he has gained the capacity to reach the peaks of salvation.
In his speech, the president also thanked the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, the Culture Ministry, the contest’s jury panel, the contestants and everyone else who contributed to organizing the international Quranic event.
Iran’s 30th International Quran Competition was held in Tehran from May 31 to June 7.
