TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq, Syria and Yemen are among the countries that have condemned Monday’s move by the US president to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist group”.

According to al-Manar TV network, Syria’s foreign ministry denounced the step taken by Donald Trump as a colonialist plot to dominate the region.

A source in the Syrian foreign ministry said it is aimed at serving the Zionist regime of Israel.

The source described it as a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of Iran.

The official added that the US administration’s “irresponsible step” was part of the declared war launched by the US against Iran.

“The US measure is a legion of honor for and recognition of the pioneering role of the IRGC in defending Iran’s sovereignty and its … important role in the resistance front,” the source added.

Iraq’s Hezbollah also condemned the move and said Iraqi resistance movements will continue to stand with the IRGC.

Iraq’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alhakim also said his country would not accept US sanctions imposed on Iran.

Hamas Spokesman Hazem Qassem, in a tweet on Monday, also slammed the US decision and said, “The United States, which sponsors the largest group of terrorists in the world, embodied by ... Israel, continues its arrogance and spreads the terrorist charge to others”.

Moreover, Yemeni political parties slammed the decision, saying the US is the leading terrorist in the world because it has created and supported terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and Daesh.

The Trump administration on Monday labeled IRGC as a “terrorist group”. Later in the day, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in turn designated US forces in West Asia, known as the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), as a terrorist organization.
